The Brazilian
coast is one of the most beautiful in the world. It is approximately
8.000km long, and has a varied ecossystem. Brazil is the home
of wonderful beaches located among lakes, mountains, islands
and forests.
Rio
de Janeiro, RJ, Brazil
The
city where we live
Rio
de Janeiro city is the home of many beautiful beaches. All of
them occupying a long area and surrounded by mountains and residential
buildings. The white thin sand, the beautiful blue sea and the
palm trees along the sea shore make them some of the most beautiful
beaches in the world. Barra da Tijuca, Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon,
Pepino, Recreio dos Bandeirantes, São Conrado, Urca...
just to name a few. |
Barra
da Tijuca
|
Barra
is the largest beach in extension (18 Km of thin and white sand).
It is one of the favorite among people who live in Rio. |
The
sea has large waves, but sometimes it gets calmer and sand banks
are formed in some areas. |
|
|
It's
good for surfind and bodyboarding and it's the place where Brazilian
and World Championships, such as the WCT take place. These pictures
were taken at the end of March 2001 (during fall in Rio). |
From
the beach we can see the Gávea Rock. It's from the top
of this mountain that people go for hang-gliding. The view from
the top is wonderful. |
|
|
Barra
da Tijuca is a residential district where many shopping malls,
restaurants, dance clubs and parks are concentrated. |
Barra has many
tall residential buildings, most with swimming pools, gym clubs,
tennis squares and other facilities. -- Just a curiosity...can
you see people in the swimming pool on the right ? I took this
picture in June 2003 (during winter in Rio). :o) |
|
|
Although
there is a large number of very tall buildings at Barra da Tijuca,
those located along the sea shore in front of the beach are mostly
short with only a few apartments. |
Ipanema
Ipanema
is one of the most famous places in Rio de Janeiro. It was immortalized
in the world-known Brazilian song "Girl from Ipanema".
It has tall buildings along the sea shore and many shops and
restaurants are concentrated in the district's main street. |
|
Copacabana
|
Copacabana
is the most famous beach in Rio and also another place that was
immortalized in songs. The district has many hotels and is often
crowded with tourists from all over the world. |
On
the last day of the year, Copacabana attracts millions of people
from everywhere. A beautiful fireworks show happens close to
the sea shore to celebrate the New Year. |
|
Leblon
|
The
Leblon Beach is another beautiful beach in Rio. During the weekends,
the pathway along the shore is closed to the traffic and gives
room for pedestrians, and those who practice cycling or roller
skating. On this picture, you can see the Leblon beach on the
left and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon on the right. |
Another
picture of the Leblon beach and the Rodrigo the Freitas Lagoon.
Located on the left of the lagoon is the Brazilian Jockey Club. |
|
Pepino
|
Located
South of São Conrado beach, the Pepino beach has a landing
path for those who practice hang-gliding. The large rock on the
background is the Gávea Rock, which can be seen in another
picture on top of this page. |
Praia
Vermelha
The
Vermelha Beach, which was named after its dark sand ("vermelha"
is the portuguese word for "red), has a beautiful view of
the Sugar Loaf mountain. It's a very tiny beach located close
to the Sugar Loaf. |
