The Flowers
The
Flowers
Did you know that the flowers
are the reproductive part of the plant ? They are responsible
for the reproduction of any plant belonging to the highest group
of plants, called angiosperms. They are formed by female organs,
such as the ovary, the style and the stigma, and by the stamen,
the male organ, which is responsible for the pollen production.
Flowers can be solitary,
that is, produced singly, such as poppy, magnolia, tulip and
petunia, while in other plants, such as aster, snapdragon, calla
lily and lilac are borne in groups called inflorescence. The
function of the flowers is the reproduction of the species through
the production of seed.
Insects and the wind
help this reproduction by carrying the pollen that will develop
another plant. The insects are attracted
to the flowers by their perfume and they use their nectar as
food. |
