Ticket
to the Van Gogh Museum, the home of the world's largest collection
of works by Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890), one of my favorite
painters.
The
museum has more than 200 paintings and 500 drawings. After Vincent's
death in July 1890, his brother Theo, who was an art dealer,
owned most of Vincent's works. |
In
1962, the works which still remained in the family collection
were purchased by the newly established Vincent van Gogh Foundation
The
funds were provided by the Dutch state, which also constructed
the museum building designed by the Dutch architect Gerrit Rietveld
and his partners. The van Gogh Museum first opened in 1973.
This
is Vincent's most famous painting, Sunflowers (Zonnenbloemen).
