The Origin of the Easter Eggs -
The egg,
as a symbol of fertility and new life, is the most identifiable
of all symbols associated with Easter and customs and traditions
of using eggs associated with Easter exist for centuries.
Originally,
the Easter eggs were painted with bright colors to represent
the sunlight of Spring. After they were colored and etched with
different designs they were given as gifts or used in Easter
egg contests. In Germany the eggs were given to children along
with other Easter gifts. |
