Region
in the western hemisphere that connects the South
to the North
America.
It is considered by geographers as part of the North America. Also
located in the
Central
America
region
are the * West Indies, or Antilles, a group of islands that extends from the coast
of Florida to the coast of Venezuela. The larger islands of the
archipelago (Cuba, Jamaica, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico) are known
as the Greater Antilles while the smaller islands of the archipelago
receive the name of Lesser Antilles. Some of the countries of
Central America are: Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala,
Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama among others.

Country
in Central America located between Nicaragua and Panama. It is
bounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. San Jose
is its capital. |

ANTILLES
(WEST INDIES)
Group
of islands in the Caribbean Sea, located in the Central America
region. The Antilles, or West Indies, are formed by the Greater
Antilles, the Lesser Antilles and the Bahamas (an archipelago
located on the south of Cuba, between Florida and the island
of Hispaniola).
Cuba,
Jamaica, Hispaniola and Puerto Rico form the Greater Antilles.
Cuba is the largest island of the Greater Antilles and Hispaniola
(which is diveded in two nations: Haiti and Dominican Republic)
is the second.
The
Lesser Antilles are formed by Guadelupe, Dominica, Martinica
and others. These islands are the top of a chain
of mountains which submerged and that connected the South to
the North America.
Politically
these islands comprise 13 independent nations and a number of
colonial dependencies, territories and possessions: The Bahamas,
Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic (both occupy
Hispaniola), Puerto Rico, the Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis,
Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and
the Grenadines, Barbados, Grenada, and Trinidad and Tobago. |

Republic of Cuba is an archipelago formed by the island of Cuba
and other adjacent islands located in the West Indies, also known
as Antilles. The island of Cuba is the largest of the West Indies.
Together with Puerto Rico, Hispaniola and Jamaica, Cuba form
the Greater Antilles. Havana is Cuba's capital city. |

of the Antilles (West Indies). Together with Cuba, Hispaniola
and Puerto Rico, Jamaica forms a group of islands known as the
Greater Antilles. Kingston, a large commercial seaport, is the

The
Commonwealth of Puerto Rico (Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto
Rico), is composed of one large and densely populated island
and several small islands in the West Indies, also known as the
Antilles. It forms part of the Greater Antilles along with the
islands of Cuba, Hispaniola and Jamaica. San Juan is Puerto Rico's
capital, chief port, and largest city. |
